Pitch / Ideas For A Crime Drama

In the opening sequence of our Crime Drama will be set in a house. It will show a gun being drawn to the people in the house whilst they sleep. However you will not be shown the identity of the murderer as viewer's will see him kill through his perspective, meaning that the camera will be the eyes of the killer. This will create tension as the audience will be on suspense.

The purpose of sound is a stimulating reality and the effect of awareness it has on the audience. It sets the mood and creates a certain atmosphere for viewers to interpret. So for example when the killing is going to be shown the non diegetic sound will be slow and spooky to empathise what’s going on and to make the audience feel the fear factor and mystery. Sound will be also used for the bullet of the gun as it goes off. This will show sound has an important role we might not realize it but the sound effect of the gun will add to the frightening feeling the audience will experience.

The props that will be used are a police tape which will add to the realism and a gun and police badge which will be essential because its a form of identification that we'll need to portray detectives as they are. We will also use forensic costumes as it will broaden the crime drama as it shows a different side of policing. Costume for the crime drama will be formal for the detectives which will reflect the high authority and position that they have. The number of characters will be kept to a minimum of about four or five as we want to keep it simple and manageable.

Editing will be used for when we use another location which is the outside of a police station and it'll then cut back into an office to show policing. During editing a flashback will be shown it is then the audience will find out who the criminal is.

The Detective will be handed a bagful of the victims belongs. As soon as the detective intensely looks towards at them the camera shot will be a close up of her eyes to show the emotions and the tension building up. As Soon as she touches the belongings the flashback starts therefore creating a dramatic effect.

During the flashback the colour will be dim or black and white, the use of colour change will show that the past is being shown and it will mirror the situation to create a sense of darkness as the killer will be identified. As it will be someone you would least expect, its going to be a detective. This will bring a twist to the drama as it will be an unexpected turn.

The representation of gender will be shown as the detective will be female. Having a female detective who is the killer shows that you would presume that a male would be the murderer. So having a female as a lead detective will also portray the stereotypical views we have associated with women as the opposite.
