The most popular answer was murder than rape, kidnapping, Drug Addiction, Prostitution, Child related or Suicide. The reason for this could be because issues such as rape can be sensitive for viewers and topics involving children can be disturbing and have a negative impact on the audience. However the topic murder is still gruesome but has a less effect on the audience as it is still bearable to watch.
A majority out of the 10 people asked they all answered female. The reason for this could be because having a female killer is unlikely as male killers are mostly shown in crime dramas. A female killer shows a difference of representation of gender as its something different and interesting that will lure the viewers as having a female goes against the traits we visually associate with them, for example they are not physically stronger than males and are seen as being more vulnerable.
A high number answered yes because the background music is what makes a crime drama. Sound can play with the emotions of the viewer meaning for example if you hear slow, scary music playing the viewer would get scared and feel the presence of what’s happening. For instance it can make you jump in shock this adds to the empathises of the moment.
The conclusion both wanted to see the police side and the from the criminals point of view. This could be because to see how police work can interest the viewers especially things such as forensics as they get an insight of what it is like and see a complete different side to policing it can be very intriguing. From the criminals perceptive it is also enjoyable to watch and you get to know why a person commits such a crime so it’s like you’re trying to get into the mind of the killer and see why they do, what they do. Its like reverse psychology studying the mind of a killer, which can indulge the viewer. Where as in our crime drama it will be both as the killer will be the detective.
A majority answered yes however in many crime dramas the relationship between the working partners is often shown. For instance in ‘The Sweeney’ and ‘The Shield’ we are shown the detectives relationship it’s more of a love/hate relationship. Particularly in ‘The Shield’ this does have an impact on the crime drama as it can affect the way in which cases are dealt with. Where as in our crime drama Key Witness the detectives working together are also partners this show the difference between the partners and their personalities clashes from work and home life.
To use a gun as a murder weapon than a knife is more effective because a knife is more grisly which would probably suite a horror film rather than a crime drama.
